Ventral & Umbilical Hernia

Ventral and umbilical hernias are abdominal wall conditions where internal tissue or a portion of the intestine protrudes through a weakened area of the abdominal muscles, forming a visible bulge and causing discomfort. Both ventral and umbilical hernias do not heal on their own and typically require surgical repair to prevent complications such as incarceration or strangulation, where the trapped intestine may lose its blood supply.

A ventral hernia usually occurs at or near a previous surgical incision or any weakened part of the abdominal wall. It may cause pain, pressure, or a feeling of heaviness, especially during physical activity, coughing, or lifting heavy objects.

An umbilical hernia occurs near the belly button and is commonly seen in infants, adults, and pregnant women. The swelling may become more noticeable when standing or straining.
